The Basics

While the Sagrada Familia looms large over Barcelona—it’s visible from many parts of the city—the cathedral should be seen up close and from within to truly be appreciated. Visitors can tour the interior on their own, on a guided tour, or with an audio guide. It’s also possible to take an elevator up one of the towers for sweeping views over the city.

Just about every sightseeing tour in Barcelona includes a stop here, as do hop-on hop-off bus tours, which also stop at Park Güell, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, and Plaça de Catalunya. It’s possible to combine a visit to the Sagrada Familia with a half-day trip to the nearby mountain abbey of Montserrat or the medieval city of Girona.

Skip the Line: Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia Guided Tour
We thoroughly enjoyed this half-day tour! Our guide was kind and full of knowledge. She accommodated the pace of the entire group. The bus between the two sites was comfortable and clean. I highly recommend this tour if you actually want to know the history of Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell and not just pictures. We got those too! Bring sunglasses/hat, water, and good walking shoes!

Vicente our tour guide was absolutely amazing! He gave us valuable safety advice and recommended great places to eat. We had a wonderful drive around the city after visiting the Sagrada Familia. He was very kind to take photos of us as well. I recommended him to other people I knew who were also visiting Barcelona. Thank you for a fun and great experience! I’m still saying “Vale” 😂

Sagrada Familia Private Tour with Skip-the-Line Ticket
Elisabet was very knowledgeable and informative and made the Sagrada Familia tour a wonderful experience. The unexpected benefit of a private tour was that it was more like a conversation than listening to a presentation. We were able to spend more time learning about aspects that interested us and truly appreciate Sagrada Familia. The tour included not only the history of Sagrada Familia but also the history of the area and region that affected its development.

Barcelona and Sagrada Familia Small Group Tour with Hotel Pick-up
Loved the relaxed exploring of Barcelona with just the right amount of stops and viewing but of course Sagrada Familia was just as amazing and outstanding as we had heard it was and we did not have to wait in line for tickets and we saw it at our own pace. Luis was a great guide and being picked up at the hotel was a real treat.

Sagrada Familia is the most stunning church in the world. Guide was excellent. Went in the late afternoon in July. Light shining through the stained glass windows was beautiful.

When to Get There

The Sagrada Familia is open throughout the year but can be extremely busy in summer, so a skip-the-line ticket is recommended. The facade looks markedly different when illuminated at night than it does during the day, so plan for at least a short visit during both periods. Note that the basilica holds an international mass each Sunday morning in several languages; entrance is free, but space is limited.

Visiting the Sagrada Familia Museum

The basement beneath the passion façade houses a museum covering the temple's construction through drawings, photographs, and plaster models. Entry to the museum is included in basilica admission, and visitors can see the working modeling studio where Gaudi’s restored maquettes are reproduced to aid in the structure’s ongoing construction.
